You Won’t Look At Stunts The Same After Watching ‘The Fall Guy’
He’s not just Ken, he is Colt Seavers, stunt man to the stars, taking the hit so they don’t have to!
Table Of Content
Ryan Gosling stars as stuntman Colt Seavers, who gets thrown into a wild conspiracy while trying to reclaim his girl, Jody played by Emily Blunt, who also happens to be the director of the new film he works in, “Metalstorm.” After a rocky start between the two, and a freak accident keeping them a part for months, it seems they might rekindle, and nothing stands in their way, or does it?
The film serves as a love letter to stuntmen and women and is loosely inspired by the 1980s Lee Majors television series of the same name. Director and former stunt performer David Leitch’s film serves as a heartfelt tribute to both his wife, producer Kelly McCormick, and the often-overlooked craft of stunt work. Collaborating with screenwriter and executive producer Drew Pearce, the film deepens appreciation for those who risk their lives to enhance our on-screen experiences.
As we previously reported following an advanced screening with the cast and crew back in March, the film set a world record for the most cannon rolls done in a vehicle by stuntman Logan Holladay. This breathtaking stunt is featured early in the film during a scene where Ryan’s character, Colt, arrives to Jody’s set, unaware to her that he is the new lead stuntman in her film.
Notably, Ryan Gosling performed many of his own stunts, aligning closely with his character, which significantly enhances the authenticity on screen. For example, Gosling himself handled the impressive truck scene.
Produced by 87North, known for their work in “Bullet Train” and numerous other films with outstanding stunts, “The Fall Guy” showcases an array of daring feats without hesitation. However, the film is more than just a showcase of stunts; it interweaves a romantic subplot within the broader tribute to stunt performers, blending comedy, love, and action to appeal to a diverse audience.
Colt & Jody, An Unlikely Perfect Match
Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling display remarkable on-set chemistry, making it wholly believable that their characters are entangled romantically. Their performances excel, contributing to a satisfying viewing experience for the audience.
An Epic Ending
One of the film’s most thrilling moments involves Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character, Tom Ryder, sitting next to Gosling’s Colt in the climactic finale, which escalates into a chase filled with epic stunts, including a stunt double leaping from a helicopter. The inclusion of real 87North stunt gear within the film adds a layer of realism and fun, offering viewers a sneak peek into the complexities of filmmaking within a movie about making a movie. These thoughtful details not only add depth but also celebrate the men and women behind the scenes who bring such a film to life.
