Val Kilmer, the charismatic and immensely talented actor known for his unforgettable performances as Jim Morrison in The Doors and as the Caped Crusader in Batman Forever, has passed away at the age of 65. He died on Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Born and raised in L.A., Kilmer’s career was marked by a rare blend of leading-man magnetism and a chameleon-like ability to disappear into his roles. He first captured audiences’ attention with his breakout role in the 1985 comedy Real Genius, but it was his portrayal of the enigmatic Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors that cemented his status as a Hollywood powerhouse. His uncanny ability to channel the rock icon—both in voice and spirit—earned him widespread acclaim.

Kilmer stepped into the legendary role of Bruce Wayne in 1995’s Batman Forever, delivering a brooding yet sophisticated take on Gotham’s vigilante. However, for many, his most cherished role was that of the cocky yet cool fighter pilot Iceman in Top Gun, a character he reprised decades later in Top Gun: Maverick (2022). His return to the role was an emotional moment for both fans and co-stars, symbolizing his resilience in the face of personal and health battles.

A devout Christian, he credited his recovery in part to his unwavering faith.
Beyond his leading roles, Kilmer was a master of supporting performances, stealing scenes in classics like Heat, True Romance, and Tombstone, where his portrayal of Doc Holliday remains one of the most celebrated in modern Westerns.
