Joe Pantoliano Calls the Season “Ambitious, Deadly, and Tragic”

Joe Pantoliano, who joined the series as Stefano Marchetti, had a much more ominous description when asked to summarize Season 5 in three words.

“Ambitious, deadly, and tragic.”

For longtime fans, those words are likely enough to spark concern about the fate of several beloved characters.

Pantoliano also discussed his approach to playing complex and morally gray characters throughout his career. Rather than viewing them as villains, he explained that he is fascinated by the psychology behind people who become ruthless in order to survive.

“I’m always fascinated in the psychological aspect of what makes these people become monsters,” Pantoliano said.

The veteran actor revealed that when building Stefano, he drew inspiration from real-life figures he encountered growing up, particularly local mobsters who were viewed as celebrities within his neighborhood.

That attention to authenticity has helped make Stefano one of the most intriguing additions to the final season.
