A Beloved Musical Comes to the Big Screen
After captivating audiences on stage for over two decades, Wicked finally comes to the big screen as a visually stunning, generation-defining cinematic event this holiday season. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz
Based on Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel, Wicked explores the untold story of the witches of Oz. The film stars Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a misunderstood young woman with striking green skin who is yet to discover her true power. She stars alongside Grammy-winning global pop sensation Ariana Grande as Glinda, a charming and ambitious young woman who has yet to find her true heart.
At Shiz University in the magical Land of Oz, the two women form an unexpected but deep friendship. However, their paths diverge after an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Glinda, drawn to power, seeks popularity at all costs, while Elphaba, remaining true to herself, is faced with shocking consequences that shape her destiny. Their journeys will lead them to become Glinda the Good and the infamous Wicked Witch of the West.
A Star-Studded Cast
The film’s star-studded cast also includes Academy Award® winner Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s stately headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) as Fiyero, a free-spirited prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, a kindhearted Munchkin; Marissa Bode in her film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s beloved sister; and iconic actor Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.
The cast of characters also features Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots) as Glinda’s scheming friends Pfannee and ShenShen, as well as Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) as Miss Coddle, a new character created for the film, and four-time Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) voicing Dr. Dillamond.
Produced by Marc Platt (La La Land, The Little Mermaid) and David Stone (Kimberly Akimbo, Next to Normal), the film brings together a powerhouse team. The executive producers include David Nicksay, Stephen Schwartz, and Jared LeBoff. Adapted for the screen by the musical’s book writer Winnie Holzman and legendary composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, Wicked promises to be an unforgettable cinematic adventure.
Catch it November 22!
