Simon Pegg Thinks Star Trek 4 Will Only Happen After a “Terrible” Reboot
While celebrating the premiere of Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day, Simon Pegg couldn’t help but address one of the questions fans have been asking for years: What is happening with Star Trek 4?
During a conversation with Who Let Us Out on the red carpet, the beloved actor, known for portraying Montgomery “Scotty” Scott in the Kelvin Timeline films, shared a humorous but surprisingly optimistic take on the franchise’s future.

When asked about the long-awaited sequel, Pegg revealed that the cast still talks about the possibility of returning to the final frontier.
“Do you know what? Me and Chris Pine, and Zach, and Sofia Boutella were hanging out the other night talking about it, like, what’s going to happen?” Pegg said.
The actor then joked about what he thinks Hollywood’s eventual strategy might be.
“They’ll do a reboot first, and it’ll be terrible,” he laughed. “And then they’ll go, ‘Oh, you know what? We need to get the OGs back.’ Then we’ll come back and we’ll all be like 65.”
Never missing a beat, Pegg ended his prediction with confidence in the crew’s ability to still deliver.

“Well, I will be. And we’ll do a great film.”
The comment immediately sparked excitement among longtime fans of the Kelvin Timeline cast, which includes Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaña, John Cho, and Pegg. While Star Trek 4 has spent years in development limbo, Pegg’s remarks show that the cast still has affection for the franchise and remains open to returning if the opportunity arises.
Pegg was attending the premiere of Disclosure Day, Spielberg’s latest sci-fi epic, where he stars alongside an ensemble cast in a story centered around humanity’s response to an unprecedented extraterrestrial event. The film has already generated significant buzz for its mystery-filled marketing campaign and Spielberg’s return to large-scale science fiction storytelling.
Whether Star Trek 4 arrives next year or decades from now, Pegg’s playful prediction proves one thing: the Enterprise crew hasn’t completely left spacedock just yet.
