Directed by Isabel Castro (Mija), Selena y Los Dinos reveals the woman behind the icon. “As a filmmaker, I wanted to honor her extraordinary rise and enduring legacy, while also giving a window into her life behind the stage,” Castro explains. Using family archives and interviews, the film reveals new sides of her journey. I am deeply grateful to her family for their trust and support throughout this journey. I can’t wait for the world to feel Selena’s magic, heart, and community.
The documentary features heartfelt testimonies from those who knew Selena best — her parents Marcella and Abraham Quintanilla, sister Suzette, brother A.B. Quintanilla III, husband Chris Pérez, and fellow bandmates. It traces the family’s humble beginnings performing at their Tex-Mex restaurant in Lake Jackson, Texas. It follows their drive for success, leading to Selena’s groundbreaking impact on Tejano music and beyond.
