Dev Patel excelled in showing us his director skills with his debut film “Monkey Man” brought to you by Universal Pictures and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.
You may know Patel from his portrayal of teenager Jamal Malik in Danny Boyle’s acclaimed drama “Slumdog Millionaire” in 2008, however we have been following the star since his days as Anwar Kharral in the UK E4 teen drama “Skins” in 2007. To see how far the actor has come is a full circle moment and it shows in the film’s clever plotline using the mythos of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman combined with meticulous action sequences.

Showcasing Indian culture while also tapping into the corruption we face from everyday governments, Patel combines moral code with a sweet sip of vengeance, giving us a page out of John Wick but taking it to the next level with raw martial arts style action that does not rely on modern weapons to make the kills stand out.
The gripping underdog narrative, produced by Jordan Peele, also reveals fresh dimensions of Patel’s talent as he transforms into a genuine action star, demonstrating his ability to craft a film that is effortlessly cool, occasionally witty, and remarkably contemplative. His latest work leaves us excited to see what Patel will do next in this genre and with this actions palette.
He has skillfully created a unique action film that prompts reflection while also gleefully depicting moments of brutal violence, in the most imaginative ways.
