Wonder Man Season 2 is already in the works. When we last saw Joe Pantoliano in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he was playing a fictionalized version of himself. Following Simon’s accident and Trevor taking the blame, Joe stepped into Trevor Slattery’s role as Barnaby in the Wonder Man movie. After the film’s massive success, Simon Williams and director Von Kovak discussed developing a sequel during a red carpet event. Pantoliano chimed into the conversation, and Kovak praised his performance as Barnaby. While there are currently no details regarding how the film-within-a-show came together, a potential sequel opens up the possibility for Barnaby to return, forcing Wonder Man (Simon) to face his former friend turned enemy. Additionally, in the finale, Simon’s talent agent, Janelle Jackson, approached Joe to persuade him to let her represent him, hinting at a future partnership.
During the press tour for the final season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Pantoliano was asked if he would return for Wonder Man Season 2. While he confirmed he is aware the second season is happening, he responded, “Nobody called me yet.” He noted that he was amazed by how much fans loved the show and thoroughly enjoyed playing a fictionalized version of himself. Ultimately, Pantoliano loved being part of the series and was thrilled that fans found Wonder Man so heartwarming
As of right now, production is underway for the second season of Wonder Man, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley set to reprise their roles. Showrunners Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest are currently working on the script. However, filming has not yet begun. Because Cretton is tied up with other major Marvel projects, it will likely take a year or two before Season 2 officially arrives.
Andrew Guest teased that the upcoming season will explore the origins of the tension between Simon Williams and Damage Control, while potentially revealing if Josh Gad’s character escapes from the Doorman. Furthermore, Cretton addressed that future episodes will dive deeper into Simon and Trevor’s personal lives, continuing to showcase their entertaining odd-couple dynamic.
As exciting as these plot points are, fans can also look forward to seeing Simon reveal his superpowers to the world, adopt his cinematic moniker “Wonder Man,” and potentially join the Avengers. Until then, we will just have to wait and see how Simon and Trevor’s friendship evolves and what threats they will face in Wonder Man Season 2.
