Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Reunite for a Tense Crime Thriller on Netflix from Director Joe Carnahan.
Table Of Content
Netflix’s 2026 slate is off to a high-octane start with the global release of The Rip on January 16, 2026. The gritty crime thriller marks the latest collaboration between powerhouse duo Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, this time teaming up both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

Directed and written by Joe Carnahan (Narc, The Grey), with a story co-crafted by Michael McGrale, The Rip plunges viewers into the sun-scorched underbelly of Miami’s law enforcement — where loyalty, greed, and survival collide after an unexpected discovery.

Miami cops find millions hidden in a stash house, sparking distrust among the team. Meanwhile, as word of the massive find spreads, external pressures mount—ultimately forcing them to question everything, including who they can truly trust.
With Carnahan’s signature mix of explosive action and moral tension, the film promises an edge-of-your-seat ride that explores corruption and betrayal within a system already on the brink.
Artists Equity—the production company co-founded by Damon and Affleck—backs the project. Alongside them, Dani Bernfeld and Luciana Damon serve as producers, with Kevin Halloran and Michael Joe as executive producers.
A Star-Studded Cast Anchored in Authenticity
Leading the charge are Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, reunited on screen with their trademark chemistry. To top it off, a powerhouse ensemble joins them, including:

- Steven Yeun (Minari, Beef)
- Teyana Taylor (A Thousand and One)
- Sasha Calle (The Flash)
- Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace)
- Scott Adkins (John Wick: Chapter 4)
- Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights, Bloodline)
In discussing the ensemble, writer/director Joe Carnahan shared with TUDUM:
“They all just show up and give you this wonderful sense of reality and authenticity.”
“All the performances are wonderful,” he added.
“At some point you’re going to get your heart broken — you just don’t know by whom.”

It’s this mix of raw performance and emotional unpredictability that sets The Rip apart from typical genre fare, grounding the story in character as much as conflict.
