I had the chance to step behind the curtain and experience the world of Fraggle Rock firsthand—meeting Gobo, John Tartaglia, and many of the beloved Fraggles themselves. We sang together and got an up-close look at how these iconic characters come to life.
By the end of the visit, we were officially welcomed as Honorary Fraggles, a moment as joyful and surreal as it sounds.
The Art of the Puppets: Fragile, Precious, and Couture
One of the surprises during the tour was learning just how delicate the Fraggle puppets are. Fans send tons of mail hoping to adopt or receive a puppet, but the answer is always a gentle no. It isn’t out of secrecy, but simply because of how fragile the characters truly are.
The team compared them to couture dresses: handcrafted, highly detailed, and requiring precise care. Every puppet is maintained with a level of respect and preservation that honors the legacy of Jim Henson’s creations.
John Tartaglia’s Journey: Becoming Gobo
Hearing John Tartaglia tell his story added a whole new emotional layer to the experience. A lifelong Fraggle fan, John began his career at just 16 years old. His dream was to someday be part of Fraggle Rock.
His journey to becoming the voice and performer behind Gobo is nothing short of inspiring. He shared that during his very first day, he was incredibly nervous. That changed the moment he slipped his arm into Gobo’s sleeve.. Instantly the nerves melted away, and he felt himself “become one with Gobo.”
It was a powerful reminder that dreams do come true, and John himself stands as living proof.
