The Family Plan 2 Review: Mark Wahlberg Returns in Funny, Action-Packed Holiday Sequel
The Family Plan 2 is exactly the kind of sequel I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did. It’s bigger, slicker, and undeniably chaotic, but in a way that feels true to the heart of the first film. While the original had its uneven moments, this follow-up feels more confident in what it wants to be: a fun, family-driven action comedy that leans into its warmth just as much as its spectacle.
Mark Wahlberg returns as Dan Morgan with the kind of ease that reminds you why he thrives in these roles. There’s a grounded charm to him — he balances the absurdity of a former assassin trying to keep his family safe with a very real, relatable dad energy. It’s also refreshing to see the family again now that everyone’s older; their dynamic feels more lived-in, and the humor lands a little sharper because of it.

The film still has its flaws. It occasionally slips into predictable beats, and the shift between heartfelt moments and big action set pieces can feel a little abrupt. But despite those familiar dips, there’s an earnest charm and family-centered heart that makes it hard not to enjoy the ride.
What really elevated it for me is the shift in setting. Taking the Morgans to London gives the movie a fresh pulse. As someone from England, seeing familiar streets and landmarks woven into the action added an extra layer of fun. It’s not just pretty scenery — the city plays into the momentum, giving the sequel a distinct personality.

And honestly, with its mix of comedy, family chaos, and feel-good energy, this is a genuinely great watch for the holidays. It’s light enough to enjoy with the whole family but still packed with enough action and personality to keep things entertaining.
The Family Plan 2 isn’t here to reinvent the genre — it’s here to be fun. And it nails that. I laughed, I enjoyed the family chaos, and I loved returning to these characters, especially with the added charm of a London adventure, there is no place like home.
A warm, funny, holiday-ready sequel that does exactly what you want it to.
