Could Taskmaster Return As A Variant in Avengers: Doomsday?
While promoting her latest film Misdirection, Olga Kurylenko reflected on her career across genres, but the conversation inevitably turned to her time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kurylenko portrayed Taskmaster, a complex and physically formidable antagonist whose arc appeared to come to a definitive end in Thunderbolts. Still, in a franchise where multiverses and variants have redefined what “final” means, the question of a possible return feels far from settled.

During our interview, I asked Kurylenko whether she could ever see herself stepping back into the role—particularly with large-scale projects like Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon. Given the MCU’s expanding narrative playground, I also asked if there was a specific way she would want Taskmaster to return, should the opportunity ever arise.
Her response was measured and candid. “I really—I guess it’s not my decision. I really don’t know. Sure. You know, I love—” she said, trailing off thoughtfully, offering neither confirmation nor closure, but leaving the door unmistakably ajar.
It’s a familiar dynamic within the Marvel ecosystem. Actors often remain deliberately noncommittal, especially as studios increasingly rely on secrecy and long-term storytelling. Yet Kurylenko’s reaction didn’t suggest disinterest. If anything, it reflected an openness that aligns with how Marvel has continued to reintroduce characters through alternate timelines, reimagined versions, and unexpected crossovers.

With Taskmaster’s skill set, mythology, and visual identity, the character remains a strong candidate for reinvention within the multiverse framework. Whether that return takes shape in Avengers: Doomsday or elsewhere, the MCU has proven time and again that few characters are ever truly gone. And if Marvel does decide to revisit Taskmaster, Kurylenko’s willingness to entertain the idea suggests the story may not be finished just yet.
