School Spirits Season 2 – A Hauntingly Good Return
School Spirits is back, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. Since the first season left us with so many unanswered questions (and some brutal cliffhangers), I wasn’t sure how I’d survive the wait—but Season 2 delivers in every way. This show still captures that perfect blend of mystery, teen drama, and supernatural intrigue that reminds me of all the best 2000s shows I grew up loving.

One of the biggest highlights this season is finally getting more insight into Janet, the ghost possessing Maddie’s body. Through cleverly executed flashbacks, we see Maddie (or rather, Janet in Maddie’s form) revisiting places from Janet’s past, offering us a glimpse into her life. The cinematography is especially impressive here, seamlessly shifting between Maddie and Janet’s perspectives, making it easy to forget who’s who at times. And while Janet has been causing absolute chaos, the deeper we dive into her past, the more we start to understand her pain. Growing up in the 1950s, she dealt with all the restrictive gender norms of the time, limiting her ability to chase her own dreams. While it doesn’t justify her actions, it does add a compelling layer of complexity to her character.
Meanwhile, the ghost crew is tighter than ever, but that doesn’t mean they’re free of secrets. There’s plenty of drama brewing among them, and their group dynamic shifts now that they’re actively working with the living teens to help Maddie. Seeing these two worlds collide—despite the living not being able to see the ghosts (except for Simon, of course)—adds another fun twist. Plus, Xavier’s near-death experience makes him more open to the supernatural, finally trusting Simon after getting his own eerie glimpse into the afterlife.

Of course, another mystery at the heart of School Spirits isn’t just who killed Maddie—it’s who will win her heart. Maddie’s love life is complicated, to say the least. On one side, there’s Simon, her fiercely loyal best friend who has always been by her side, even after death. Then there’s Xavier, her ex, who’s slowly redeeming himself and proving he still cares. And let’s not forget Wally, the charming and undeniably sweet ghost who seems to have real feelings for Maddie. It’s a love triangle—or rather, a love square—that keeps us guessing. Can Maddie even have a future with any of them? And if so, will she choose someone from the world of the living or the dead?
And then there’s Mr. Martin—one of the show’s most intriguing (and unsettling) characters. He continues to play both sides, making us sympathize with him one moment and completely distrust him the next. But honestly, ever since Josh Zuckerman played Eddie in Desperate Housewives (a.k.a. the Fairview Strangler), I’ve had a hard time trusting him in any role. He just has that track record, and Mr. Martin is no exception.
Season 2 of School Spirits is everything I hoped for—more twists, deeper character development, and the same eerie yet nostalgic feel that made the first season so good. If you’re not watching this show yet, you’re seriously missing out.
