When you think of a love story, your mind might go straight to films like Titanic or Dirty Dancing not necessarily the Bible. With Ruth & Boaz, Netflix takes inspiration from scripture to tell a love story that is both timeless and deeply relevant today. More than just a romance, it’s a soulful reminder that love can bloom even in the most difficult seasons of life whether you’re grieving, rebuilding, or searching for purpose in unfamiliar territory.

At the center of the story is Ruth Moably, played by Serayah, a rising Atlanta hip-hop artist whose fast paced life comes to a halt after a devastating personal tragedy. Choosing to step away from fame, Ruth relocates to rural Tennessee, where she finds herself caring for her late boyfriend’s mother, portrayed by the legendary Phylicia Rashad. What begins as a journey of grief and self-discovery evolves into something much greater when Ruth meets Boaz (Tyler Lepley), a steady and compassionate vineyard owner. Together, their paths intertwine in ways that reveal not only the power of love, but also the beauty of faith, resilience, and new beginnings.

Directed by Alanna Brown and written by Michael Elliot and Cory Tynan, Ruth & Boaz blends heartfelt storytelling with an undeniable musical spirit. The film also features an original song by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, performed by Serayah, adding another layer of emotion and artistry that deepens its impact.
Producer DeVon Franklin, who has long championed faith based stories in Hollywood, shared a deeply personal reflection on what this project means to him. He recently opened up about going through his own divorce and the difficult process of rebuilding his life. In his words, he emphasized how he had to lean on his faith, allowing God to guide him through heartbreak and uncertainty. Franklin explained that in time, true love will always find its way back, and no pain or hardship can permanently block the blessings meant for us. “In the midst of things, life happens, change happens. You don’t just go through life you grow through life,” underscoring the very essence of Ruth and Boaz’s journey.
Ruth & Boaz isn’t just a retelling of a biblical classic; it’s a powerful meditation on love, faith, and healing that feels both ancient and modern.
