On Thanksgiving Day, Sherri was discovered on the side of a road in Yolo County, battered and bruised, with a broken nose and a brand on her shoulder. She claimed she had been abducted by two Hispanic women who held her captive and abused her before inexplicably releasing her.
The investigation into her alleged kidnapping was extensive and costly, involving multiple law enforcement agencies and significant resources. However, in a shocking twist, the case took a dramatic turn in 2022 when it was revealed that Sherri Papini had fabricated the entire abduction story. Investigators uncovered that she had been staying with an ex-boyfriend during the time she claimed to be held captive. Evidence showed that she had inflicted injuries on herself to support her false narrative.
Motivated by a desire for attention and sympathy, Sherri’s elaborate deception unraveled, leading to her arrest in March 2022. She was charged with making false statements to federal law enforcement officers and engaging in mail fraud.
