OH LORD! Peacemaker Season 2 Preview and Panel at SDCC

OH LORD!!! Day three of San Diego Comic-Con was all about making peace with DC fans by finally giving us what we’ve all been wanting: a deeper dive into Peacemaker Season 2.
Table Of Content
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television attended SDCC with a mission to offer fans a sneak peek, and trust me, we were hungry for it! The panel featured James Gunn, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Freddy Stroma, Frank Grillo, Tim Meadows, Sol Rodriguez, and, of course, the man himself—walking on stage like this was a WWE match—John Cena, who James Gunn humorously claimed “stole” his Peacemaker costume from the set once again.
To kick off the show, HBO Max launched the Peacemaker trailer globally, and let me tell you, it is nothing short of amazing. Full of action, love, drama, comedy, and multiple universes! Yes, you read that right—multiple universes. In this new season, we’ll follow Peacemaker (aka Christopher Smith) as he discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But as he uncovers this new reality, he’s forced to confront his traumatic past and take control of his future.
As seen in the trailer, Rick Flag Sr. is out for blood, seeking vengeance for the death of his son, who was killed by Peacemaker. Christopher is “dealing with the demons he kinda uncovered in the first season” and trying to evolve into a true hero. But will Rick hold him back? Looks like we’re in for an epic one-on-one battle.

Before diving into Peacemaker specifics, James Gunn was given a heartfelt standing ovation from the audience—including John Cena—marking his first large crowd since the release of Superman. Gunn’s smile could’ve lit up the entire room. He confirmed that Peacemaker will take place just one month after Superman’s conclusion, with several Superman characters making appearances, including Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl in the very first episode.

True to James Gunn’s style, the writing in Peacemaker promises to deliver laughs while tugging at the heartstrings. Many fans have connected with Peacemaker in deeper ways. As Peacemaker puts it, he “just wants to be a real hero” and “doesn’t want to be a joke anymore.” Cena explains that Peacemaker’s journey this season is one of redemption, where he feels the world is against him—a sentiment many of us can relate to. Season 2 will be different, and dare I say, epic!
But the big reveal of the day? The new intro song and dance. Season 1’s intro was a massive hit, so can they top it this time?

Holland shared that the new dance moves pay homage to Dirty Dancing, and they had “an amazing choreographer who took James’ idea and vibe he was going for and made something special.” Frank Grillo added, joking, “the dancing started out as something I reluctantly did and it turned into me being the best dancer on stage.”

Later that night, at the Peacemaker themed afterparty, James Gunn took the stage to announce the new intro song—performed live by the band itself! The song is none other than “Oh Lord” by Foxy Shazam, James Gunn’s “favorite band in the world” and, according to him, “objectively the greatest rock and roll band in the world.” The band rocked the house, and the audience was dancing just like they were in the intro.
Mark your calendars! Peacemaker returns on August 21st at 9:00 p.m. ET in the U.S., with the international release on August 22nd. The season will consist of eight episodes, releasing weekly every Thursday at 9:00 p.m. ET. That’s a time change from Season 1’s 3:00 a.m. ET drop, so adjust your alarms accordingly!
