The episode left fans reeling, and Patrick returned to our interview with reflections on the emotional weight of the story. Since we last spoke, he’s been keeping busy—traveling to Iceland, working on his indie film Frick, and launching a podcast with first guests fellow The Rookie co-stars Melissa O’Neil and Lisseth Chavez.
That shift toward personal, self-driven projects has helped Patrick explore new creative territory, and his passion is clearly paying off.
When the conversation turned back to The Rookie, emotions ran high. Patrick talked candidly about the backlash Seth has faced from fans, especially after his past lies, and the vulnerability required to portray his redemption arc. One of the episode’s most unforgettable moments—Seth losing his leg during a high-stakes rescue—was a challenge Patrick took seriously. He even watched a real-life traumatic video to prepare for the intensity of the scene.

Ironically, Patrick didn’t find out about the injury through the script. “I didn’t even know that was going to happen,” he laughs. “My agent called and was like, ‘Did you read it?’ And I was like, ‘No, should I?’”
Reflecting on Seth’s full-circle journey, Patrick shared how the character evolved from a man desperate to prove himself to someone finally trying to do the right thing. The redemption wasn’t just a writing choice—it was something Patrick worked hard to earn through his performance.
He also revealed that Seth’s pattern of lying wasn’t about being malicious—it was about survival. Building that backstory gave Patrick a deeper emotional anchor to ground Seth’s actions.
When asked if it’s hard to separate himself from the character, Patrick admitted it can be, especially when fans project strong feelings onto him. But he embraces it as part of the job.
So what’s next for Seth Ridley?
Patrick didn’t confirm if Seth will be back, but he left us hopeful. “All I can say is, Seth’s not done trying to make it right.”
