Netflix unveiled the trailer for its upcoming animated revival of Norman Lear’s iconic ’70s sitcom “Good Times,” with executive producer Seth MacFarlane leaving his unmistakable mark on the project.
The animated adaptation, spearheaded by writer Ranada Shepard and co-executive produced by MacFarlane and the late Lear, follows the adventures of cab driver Reggie (J.B. Smoove), the grandson of John Amos’ character from the original series, and his wife Beverly (Yvette Nicole Brown). Together with their teenage artist son, Junior (Jay Pharoah), activist daughter Grey (Marsai Martin), and infant son involved in the drug trade, Dalvin (Gerald “Slink” Johnson), they navigate life in one of Chicago’s last housing projects.

The series’ official synopsis states, “In a system that constantly holds them down, keeping one’s head above water remains just as challenging as ever. But in this family, love prevails, with more than enough to go around.”
All 10 episodes of Season 1 are scheduled for release on Friday, April 12.
Reflecting on the project’s genesis in September 2020, MacFarlane expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s a thrill to collaborate with Norman Lear and breathe new life into his groundbreaking show ‘Good Times.’ Animation provides the perfect canvas for reimagining the original series.”
