
‘Mortal Kombat II’ Brings Brutal and Entertaining Battles in 2026 while ‘Mortal Kombat III’ is Developed
From New Line Cinema comes Mortal Kombat II — the adrenaline-charged next chapter in the hit video game adaptation, set to return to theaters in all its fierce, blood-soaked, and action-packed glory.
This time, Earthrealm’s champions face their greatest threat yet as Shao Kahn’s dark power looms over the realms. This time, old alliances tested, new rivalries ignite, and only one side will survive the battle for humanity’s fate.

Leading the charge is Karl Urban, stepping into the role of the legendary Hollywood fighter Johnny Cage. He joins a returning roster that includes Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi, also known as Scorpion.
Additionally, Director Simon Simon McQuoid returns to helm the follow-up to his explosive 2021 hit. Once again, he brings the visceral world of Mortal Kombat to life with a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, based on the iconic video game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.

Furthermore, the film is produced by Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh and McQuoid, with executive producers Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater, and Mortal Kombat (1995) producer Lawrence Kasanoff.
Behind the camera, McQuoid reunites with a powerhouse creative team: director of photography Stephen F. Windon, production designer Yohei Taneda, editor Stuart Levy, and costume designer Cappi Ireland. Casting is by Rich Delia, with music composed by Benjamin Wallfisch.
Mortal Kombat II is a New Line Cinema presentation of an Atomic Monster/Broken Road Production in association with Fireside Films. Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the film worldwide, opening only in theaters and IMAX across North America on May 15, 2026, and internationally beginning May 13, 2026.
