Mason Thames Says How to Train Your Dragon 2 Is “Bigger, Cooler, and Deeper” Than the First Movie

Fans of How to Train Your Dragon got an exciting update straight from Mason Thames during our recent interview for his latest film, Regretting You. While promoting the Colleen Hoover adaptation alongside co-star McKenna Grace, Mason gave us a little behind-the-scenes scoop on the highly anticipated live-action sequel.

Fresh off celebrating the upcoming release of The Black Phone 2, Mason has been busy on his press run for Regretting You. But once the promo tour wraps, he’s heading straight to London to begin filming the next chapter in DreamWorks’ beloved dragon saga.

The standout moment came when Mason started gushing about the new action and flight sequences, revealing just how ambitious this next installment will be.

“I talked to the director—and my team did, I think, yesterday—and all of the flight sequences and action things we’re doing are really cool,” Mason shared. “It’s kind of like what we did with the first movie, but this one especially—we’re just elevating everything we can, making it bigger, cooler, and giving everything more depth. So I’m really excited for people to see what we do with this one because the second one has a very special place in my heart.”

Beyond the high-flying action, Mason shared which dragon he would pick besides the obvious, and that his own dog resembled him.
