Blade’s MCU Debut, Spider-Man Challenges & Horror Teases in Marvel Zombies
Marvel is leaning into horror with Marvel Zombies, and for Executive Producers Brad Winderbaum and Bryan Andrews, the thrill comes from pushing the MCU into unexpected territory.

For fans, the standout reveal was none other than Blade. Andrews, a lifelong fan himself, grinned when asked about the reaction. “I’m glad people saw the little bit of Blade in the trailer and said, ‘That’s amazing—Blade better be that cool.’ I hope Kevin Feige is listening,” he joked. Winderbaum added that the timing surprised even them: “We never expected Zombies to arrive before the live-action Blade film. It wasn’t designed that way, but being the first MCU Blade turned out to be a surprise privilege.”

Spider-Man’s inclusion brought its own set of challenges. Because of shared rights between Marvel and Sony, the team had to get creative. “We’re able to use him in half-hour animation,” Winderbaum explained, “but that meant we had to break our big epic story into four chapters. Honestly, I think it made the storytelling stronger.”
When asked about the future, Andrews lit up at the thought of expanding Marvel’s horror sandbox. “We had a huge story but had to condense it. There are more tales we’d love to tell—different shades of horror, not just slashers. I love the unsettling psychological stuff too.” Winderbaum agreed, noting that zombie stories carry a deeper weight: “Survival isn’t just about living—it’s about whether it changes you, corrupts you, or tarnishes your spirit.”

As for favorites, both creators had trouble choosing. Blade, Shang-Chi, Yelena, and even Paul Rudd’s infamous “head in a jar” all got shoutouts. “It was a blast bringing so many together,” Winderbaum said. “And there are still plenty of characters we’d love to play with in the future.”
With Marvel Zombies, Marvel proves there’s still room for fresh, scary, and even unsettling stories in the MCU. And if Andrews and Winderbaum get their way, this is only the beginning.
Marvel Zombies drops on Disney+ on September 24, 2025 — all four episodes will be available that same day.
