‘Wednesday’ Season 2: Joy Sunday Talks Bianca’s Emotional Growth, New Dynamics, and What Fans Should Take Away
With Wednesday Season 2 casting an even darker and more emotionally complex spell, fans are especially eager to see how their favorite characters evolve—including Bianca Barclay, played by Joy Sunday. In an exclusive interview, Sunday dives deep into Bianca’s shifting arc, the challenges her character faces this season, and what it all meant on a personal level.

Bianca’s Power, Vulnerability, and Growth
While Bianca entered Season 1 of Wednesday as a confident siren with a guarded edge, Sunday reveals that Season 2 peels back layers of the character in unexpected ways. “She really has to cope with being forced to use her powers to protect the people she loves,” Sunday shares. “There’s this inner conflict where she starts to become more vulnerable—something we didn’t really see in Season 1.”
This evolution doesn’t come without emotional baggage. Bianca’s strained relationship with her mother takes center stage, pushing her into deeper, more complicated emotional territory. “In Season 1, she was running from her history,” says Sunday. “In Season 2, it’s chasing her.”
Shifting Dynamics with Wednesday, Enid, and Morticia
As the bonds between characters deepen, Sunday hints that Bianca takes a more introspective approach in the new season. “She’s trying not to draw too much attention to herself,” she explains. “Because of what she’s going through, she pulls back from Wednesday and Enid—which, of course, is to her detriment. She learns the importance of leaning on people.”
A surprising connection also blooms between Bianca and Morticia Addams. “Morticia gives Bianca a glimpse of what a healed relationship with a mother could look like,” Sunday says. “It teaches her about extending grace. And it makes her reflect on her own dynamic with her mom.”

Art Imitating Life
Interestingly, Sunday admits that Bianca’s emotional journey mirrored her own real-life experiences while filming. “There were things Bianca was going through that paralleled my own journey,” she reflects. “I realized I also didn’t have to shoulder things alone. I could lean on my friends. That was a really reflective moment for me.”
The Joy of Season One—and a Favorite Season 2 Moment
Though she deeply values the growth in Season 2, Sunday confesses that Season 1 holds a special place in her heart. “It was my first time acting internationally, living alone, working with legends like Tim Burton, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Luis Guzmán,” she recalls. “You can’t beat the first time.”
As for Season 2 moments she can safely share? “The camp scenes,” she laughs. “We really felt like we were at camp. I never got to go as a kid, so it was kind of cute and silly.”
What Fans Don’t Know About Bianca
While Sunday playfully keeps some of Bianca’s backstory close to the chest, she offers one tiny character secret: “Bianca learned at a young age that it’s not always good to boss people around.” It’s a small but telling detail that hints at her character’s desire to lead with integrity rather than control.”
If there’s one message Sunday hopes viewers walk away with, it’s this: don’t do life alone. “It’s important to lean on your community,” she says. “That’s how we show love—by allowing others to see who we really are.”
With Joy Sunday’s heartfelt performance, Season 2 of Wednesday promises to take fans on an even deeper, more emotional journey—not just through the gothic halls of Nevermore, but straight into the heart of what it means to connect.
