Jon Bernthal Gets Candid About The Punisher: “I Really Want to Get It Right”
At the Los Angeles premiere of The Accountant 2, Jon Bernthal walked the red carpet with his signature mix of intensity and charm. While promoting his role as Braxton — a tough character with a surprising soft spot for cats — it was impossible not to touch on The Punisher, especially following the Daredevil: Born Again finale.
Though The Accountant 2 offers a more playful side of Bernthal’s range, fans remain deeply connected to his portrayal of Frank Castle, and Bernthal made it clear just how much the character means to him.

“Look, I mean—everything. I’m unbelievably blown away by the responsibility I have in playing him,” Bernthal shared. “I have a couple of Marine Raiders with me tonight—my dear friends Cody Alfred and Colton Hill. I’m so grateful to the Marine Corps and that community for helping me on this journey—helping me write, helping me find this character.”
He emphasized the real-world connection to the role, revealing how deeply it’s rooted in honor and service:

“Some of the best people we have in this country have worn that Punisher skull on their body armor when they’ve taken that unbelievable walk into danger to stand up for our country. That’s something I take enormously seriously.”
With visible emotion and gratitude, Bernthal added:
“I make the show for them. I make the show with them. And yeah… I just really, really want to get it right.”
Jon Bernthal reprises his role as Braxton alongside Ben Affleck’s Christian in the long-waited sequel to The Accountant. Accountant 2 drops in theaters April 25!
