The first “Gladiator” starred Russell Crowe as Maximus, a Roman general betrayed by Commodus, leading to his fall into slavery and his rise as a gladiator. Driven by a desire to avenge his family, Maximus also becomes a hero by saving Lucius and Lucilla. The film was a box office hit, winning several Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor. Crowe shut down rumors previously that he would appear in some flashbacks in the new film, however, nothing is impossible!
