“Twisters” is a great and refreshing film that pays homage to the 1996 blockbuster hit by including memorable elements from the original while adding its own modern-day twist. The film is both entertaining and filled with funny moments, even as it tackles the serious topic of how tornadoes can destroy livelihoods and homes. Additionally, there is a romantic aspect woven throughout the film, which, while not heavily focused on, adds charm to the movie itself.

‘My Spy: The Eternal City’ (Prime Video)

The eagerly awaited follow-up to 2020’s action comedy, My Spy The Eternal City reunites a beloved cast led by Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman in a feel-good family adventure set in some of Europe’s most storied destinations. When Sophie’s (Coleman) high school choir is selected for an Italian tour culminating in a performance for the Pope in Vatican City, JJ (Bautista) sees this as an opportunity to bond with his new stepdaughter, so he volunteers to help chaperone the group through the Venetian canals, across Florence’s renowned bridges and into Rome’s most historic sites. Instead he finds that he and Sophie have become unwitting pawns in a terrorist plot that could end the world as we know it. Returning stars Ken Jeong and Kristen Schaal are joined by Anna Faris, Craig Robinson and Flula Borg in this all-new international action comedy from director Pete Segal (Get Smart, 50 First Dates).

‘Young Woman and the Sea’ (Disney Plus)

Directed by Joachim Rønning, who also helmed Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who is always breaking his own records and setting new standards for crowd-pleasers, “Young Woman and the Sea” tells the inspiring underdog story of Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle, played by Daisy Ridley. Ederle, a relatively unknown Olympic swimmer, made history in 1926 as the first woman to swim across the English Channel. Initially slated for a Disney+ release, the film’s record-setting test scores led producer Jerry Bruckheimer to push relentlessly for a theatrical release.

‘Lady in the Lake’ (Apple TV Plus)

When the disappearance of a young girl grips Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966, the lives of two women converge on a deadly collision course. Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman), a Jewish housewife with a secret past, is determined to reinvent herself as an investigative journalist. Meanwhile, Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram), a mother entrenched in the political underbelly of Black Baltimore, struggles to support her family. Their seemingly parallel lives intersect when Maddie becomes obsessed with Cleo’s mysterious death, opening a chasm that endangers everyone around them. Directed by the visionary Alma Har’el, “Lady in the Lake” unfolds as a feverish noir thriller and an unexpected tale of the sacrifices women make for their dreams.
