FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA Makes First Premiere In Australia With Anya Taylor-Joy & Chris Hemsworth
Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth are gearing up for their roles in Warner Bros.’ upcoming ‘Mad Max’ prequel, and it all started with a bang in Australia.
Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth star in George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” which is the highly anticipated prequel that marks the return to the dystopian universe first introduced over 30 years ago in the seminal “Mad Max” films. The Academy Award-winning director now delivers a fresh, standalone action adventure that unveils the origins of the formidable character from the Oscar-winning hit “Mad Max: Fury Road.” This new installment is produced by Miller and his long-term partner, Oscar-nominated producer Doug Mitchell (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Babe”), under their Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner in Australia.
In this story, a young Furiosa is taken from the Green Place of Many Mothers and captured by a vast Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus played by Hemsworth. As they traverse the Wasteland, they encounter the Citadel ruled by The Immortan Joe. Amidst the power struggle between the two tyrants, Furiosa faces numerous challenges as she fights to find her way back home and get revenge for the childhood she lost.
Alongside Taylor-Joy, who takes on the titular role, and Hemsworth, the film features performances by Alyla Browne and Tom Burke.
George Miller co-wrote the script with “Mad Max: Fury Road” collaborator Nico Lathouris. The film’s production team includes first assistant director PJ Voeten, second unit director and stunt coordinator Guy Norris, director of photography Simon Duggan (“Hacksaw Ridge,” “The Great Gatsby”), composer Tom Holkenborg, sound designer Robert Mackenzie, editor Eliot Knapman, visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson, and colorist Eric Whipp. Additionally, the film reunites many of Miller’s longtime collaborators such as production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo, costume designer Jenny Beavan, and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt—all of whom earned Oscars for their work on “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” a Kennedy Miller Mitchell Production, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures and presented by Warner Bros. Pictures, will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to release exclusively in theaters nationwide on May 24, 2024! Get your popcorn and BBQ ready because it’s going down this Memorial Day weekend!
