Universal Studios Hollywood just hit the gas on its next big thrill and this time, it’s all about family, speed, and a whole lot of drift.

The park officially kicked off extended testing this week for its first-ever outdoor high speed roller coaster, “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” as it races toward its 2026 grand opening. In classic Fast & Furious fashion, Universal is revving up excitement with a cinematic first test launch and even though the cars are still under wraps (including the legendary Dodge Charger).
A Hollywood First: Speed Meets Style
Set to anchor the Upper Lot, Hollywood Drift promises to redefine what a Universal coaster can be. Guests will start their engines inside an expansive, garage inspired queue before buckling into one of four ride vehicles modeled after the franchise’s most iconic cars including Dominic Toretto’s unmistakable 1970 Dodge Charger.
Once that engine roars to life, riders will launch into 4,100 feet of twisting, turning, and drifting track that’s nearly twelve football fields of pure motion featuring 360 degree rotating vehicles that simulate real cinematic drifting. Picture racing above Universal’s skyline as your car spins and slides midair, gliding over the park’s iconic multi level escalator. That’s not movie magic that’s real, high speed engineering.

And because Universal knows fans love immersion, the coaster is being built with sound reduction technology to ensure every rev, spin, and scream feels as authentic as possible.
