Exclusive: Sophie Thatcher & Jack Quaid Talk Dating Phobias, Companion Movie, and Whether Jack Could Be Live Action Superman or Spider-Man!
We had an absolute blast sitting down with the talented stars of Companion—Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets, Heretic) and Jack Quaid (The Boys, Scream VI)—for an exclusive chat about the film, their roles, and everything in between! From dating phobias to companions as previous roles, it’s a fun one.
Table Of Content
First off, we had to ask: if they could have any character from their past roles as a companion, who would they choose? Well, Sophie—who’s no stranger to a bit of horror with her Heretic and Yellowjackets background—shared some pretty wild thoughts about who she’d pick to team up with. And while the characters Jack has played (like Hughie in The Boys) are a far cry from Josh in Companion, the closest I would say is his role in Scream VI, it was fascinating to hear who he thinks would make a good companion in his world of action and drama.

Spiderman Or Superman?
Speaking of superheroes, Jack had a cool revelation: he’s already voiced Superman and he portrayed the Earth-65 variant of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and the voice of Superman in ‘My Adventures With Superman‘ so we couldn’t help but ask—would he ever want to play one of them in live-action? You can guess his answer, but trust us, it’s a fun ride to hear him talk about it.
The Vision For Companion
We also talked with director Drew Hancock about his vision for Companion and whether there could be future spin-offs. The film is gripping, and there’s a deep, emotional core to it. Iris’s journey, as many will recognize, is one of struggle, pain, and ultimately, empowerment. Trapped in an abusive relationship, Iris fights to take control of her own life, reclaiming her power from Josh. It’s a tough journey, but one that’s relatable to so many people—whether they’ve been through it themselves or seen it happen to someone close to them. Both Sophie and Jack opened up about what they learned through playing their characters, especially how Iris’s struggle resonated with them on a personal level. It’s clear that the film isn’t just a thriller; it’s a deeply human story of overcoming and finding strength in the most difficult circumstances.

We also got the chance to hear more about the inspiration behind the film and how Drew brought all of these emotions and experiences to life on screen. Companion isn’t just about what happens; it’s about how those moments change everything—and how a single decision can change the course of someone’s life.
Don’t forget to check out the interview, and maybe even rethink who you’d want as your own companion in life! Companion is in theaters this Friday!
