A Necessary Ending — And a Bloody New Beginning
Reflecting on the divisive New Blood finale, Michael C. Hall says it all made sense in the bigger picture:
“Well, I think New Blood ended narratively in a way that made sense. It was frustrating for some people to see Dexter go out like that. But life wasn’t done with him. The way New Blood ended was the way it needed to if the stage was going to be set for this new chapter. Dexter’s been awarded this second chance at life and is able, in a way he hasn’t for years, to put down some of the baggage he’s been carrying and maybe move forward more decisively as he reclaims who he really is. It was a gnarly end — but a really great beginning.”
New Temptations — And Old Codes
Could Resurrection finally give Dexter someone to match him romantically? Hall didn’t reveal too much but it is Dexter’s focus to be there for Harrison
“I don’t want to spoil anything, but a part of Dexter’s recommitment to who he really is makes him pretty averse to that kind of relationship. But things happen. Characters emerge. He’s committed to the Code and to his son — he isn’t exactly looking for love, but you never know.”

Harry Morgan’s Return as Dexter’s Guide
James Remar returns as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s father and internal compass — a shift from New Blood where Debra had taken that role.
“Dexter was running away from himself, trying to keep his Dark Passenger at bay. In the original series, Deborah anchored him — but Harry gave him the rules so he wouldn’t get caught. Now that Harry’s back, Dexter needs that guidance more than ever.”
Harrison’s Darkness — Nature or Nurture?
Jack Alcott, who plays Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan, offered thoughtful insight into whether darkness runs in the family or if it really is a consequence of their trauma.
“The fear of being a monster is one of the most alive things in Harrison — but that doesn’t exist in a vacuum. There has to be something in there that he’s afraid of. There’s a little bit of yes, a little bit of no. It’s one of my favorite questions about Harrison.”

Forgiveness — Or Revenge?
David Zayas, back as fan-favorite Angel Batista, knows Angel’s complicated relationship with Dexter will come to a head, but will he ever be able to forgive Dexter, or will his sole purpose be to bring him down once and for all.
“It’s difficult to answer whether Angel will forgive him. If Dexter takes responsibility for what he’s done, there might be an avenue for Angel to accept him. But it’s become so personal now — that’s the journey, and that’s the complication of who Angel is.”
A Breath of Fresh Air — And New Consequences
Ntare Mwine plays Blessing Kamara, a character bringing warmth and light into Dexter’s murky world — but that closeness comes at a cost.
“Blessing is a breath of fresh air. His daughter’s name is Joy, his wife’s Constance, his mother’s Prudence — all these elements bring hope. But there are always consequences when you get too close to Dexter. We’ll see who’s left standing.”
New Detectives, Same Danger
Kadia Saraf (Detective Claudette Wallace) and Dominic Fumusa (Detective Melvin Oliva) step in as the detectives trying to piece together the chaos Dexter leaves behind — while Emilia Suárez (Elsa Rivera) anchors Harrison’s search for his own identity.
Saraf and Fumusa teased whether the detectives will crack the case:
“We’re trying really hard,” Saraf says. “Where it all leads… that’s anybody’s guess.”
Fumusa adds, “It likely does lead somewhere where everything converges, but when and where is anybody’s guess at this point.”
Meanwhile, Suárez shared what Elsa means for Harrison’s struggle:
“Elsa believes that Harrison is a really good guy and believes in his inherent goodness — that might be trapped by suffocating factors. She’s invested in him becoming the person he’s been kept from.”
A Legacy That Won’t Die
As Michael C. Hall put it best:
“The fact that Dexter has had this broad and abiding appeal for fans for as long as he has is mind-blowing. That’s what I’m most grateful for.”
The Dark Passenger rises once more when Dexter: Resurrection premieres with its first two episodes streaming July 11, 2025 on Paramount+ Premium (formerly Paramount+ with SHOWTIME). The series then makes its linear TV debut on SHOWTIME Sunday, July 13 at 8 p.m. ET.
