So, what do Princess Tiana and Dooky Chase’s Restaurant in New Orleans have in common? A lot more than you might think—and not just because both stories begin in New Orleans.
The Real Princess Tiana
Legendary chef Leah Chase, the former owner of Dooky Chase’s, had a vision to uplift her community through her passions: exceptional cooking and creating an inclusive space for all. She transformed a simple sandwich shop in Tremé into one of the country’s first fine-dining establishments for African Americans. This inspiring story served as a major influence on the creation of Princess Tiana in The Princess and the Frog and later inspired Walt Disney Imagineering’s newest attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
A Joyful Celebration
The opening festivities were a star-studded affair, with Princess Tiana herself, Anika Noni Rose, visiting the park to perform hits from The Princess and the Frog. Joining her were other beloved stars of the film, including Jenifer Lewis (Mama Odie) and Michael-Leon Wooley (Louis). The two delighted guests as they experienced the ride firsthand, marveling at their characters brought to life through stunning animatronics. Others including Tia Mowry and Yvette Nicole Brown participated in the joyous occasion, bringing to life Tiana and the magic around her
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is more than an attraction—it’s a celebration of culture, creativity, and community, reminding us all of the magic that happens when dreams and determination collide.
