Exclusive: Brent Huff Talks The Rookie, Modeling, Raccoons, Season 8 & Working With Jake Paul
We’ve got none other than Smitty in the building — a.k.a. Brent Huff — who plays Officer Smitty on The Rookie. Let’s be real: he’s one of your favorite characters on TV, even if he sometimes tries to make himself invisible.
While we’re all fully obsessed with The Rookie, Brent has been in the game for a long time. Before Smitty ever hit the screen, Brent had a solid run in action films, appeared in Shameless, and even dabbled in modeling when he first moved to LA. Naturally, we had to dig into Smitty’s backstory — and Brent got candid about his beginnings, his modeling days, and the moment he realized acting was his true calling, even though he was actually killing it in modeling.
We also got into how Smitty came to life, how the role has woven its way into Brent’s own day-to-day — and yes, even his wife brings up Smitty in their everyday life. Trust us, Smitty shows up in more ways than you’d expect, even during this interview.

With The Rookie recently renewed for Season 8, we had to ask: does Smitty know something we don’t? We touched on what it feels like knowing the show is coming back and whether Officer Smitty might be getting more screen time. Could a full-on Smitty standalone episode be on the horizon? We got a little taste of that in The Rookie: Feds, but let’s be honest — we want more.
We also had some fun asking the real questions: how many kids does Smitty actually have? Is there just one ex-wife he’s divorced from multiple times, or does he actually have multiple ex-wives? The mystery continues…
Make sure you check out the full interview and tap into all things Smitty — because this definitely won’t be the last time we’re chatting with Brent. He’s clearly invested in the character, and honestly, parts of Smitty just are Brent at this point. We can’t wait to see more.
Oh — and don’t forget to check out some of Brent’s other ICONIC work too, from action movies and Shameless to working with Jake Paul. He’s more than just Smitty (but we’ll never stop loving Smitty).
