Disney Unveils Exciting New Featurette for the Highly Anticipated ‘Young Woman & The Sea’
Today, Disney shared a new featurette for “Young Woman and the Sea,” chronicling the incredible true story of Trudy Ederle, who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel.
Daisy Ridley portrays Trudy Ederle, an exceptional swimmer and daughter of immigrant parents in New York City, born in 1905. With the unwavering support of her older sister and dedicated coaches, she confronted societal barriers and patriarchal challenges, climbing the ranks of the Olympic swimming team to accomplish a momentous 21-mile swim from France to England.
The film features Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, Jeanette Hain, Sian Clifford, and Glenn Fleshler. Directed by Joachim Rønning and penned by Jeff Nathanson, it is based on Glenn Stout’s book “Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World.” Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson, with executive production by John G. Scotti, Daisy Ridley, and Joachim Rønning.
The featurette includes commentary from the cast and crew, including Daisy Ridley and director Joachim Rønning discussing the significance of Trudy Ederle’s story. They explore the impact of her achievements on the perception of women in sports and the importance of recognizing and celebrating such accomplishments.
