Disney Shares Remarkable True Story Of First Woman To Conquer The English Channel In”Young Woman and the Sea”
Today, Disney shared the new trailer for the inspiring true story of first woman who swam then English Channel.
“Young Woman and the Sea” tells the story of Trudy Ederle who swam the channel in 1926 despite all the odds that were against her. Daisy Ridley takes on the lead role as the determined swimmer, who with unwavering support from her older sister and dedicated coaches, defies the odds and societal barriers to ascend within the Olympic swimming realm. Many of her male counterparts believed she would not make it and that a woman was not capable, but despite everything against her, Trudy did it.

Ederle completes the daunting 21-mile journey across the English Channel, from France to England. Joining Ridley in this epic tale are Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler. Directed by Joachim Rønning and penned by Jeff Nathanson, the film draws inspiration from Glenn Stout’s book, “Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World.” Producing the project are Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson, with John G. Scotti, Daisy Ridley, and Joachim Rønning serving as executive producers.
Disney has always had a keen eye and special attention to detail when it comes to documenting important pivotal figures of history and “Young Woman and the Sea” is poised to be another triumph in recounting this significant narrative.
“Young Woman and the Sea” is set to premiere in select theaters on May 31, 2024.
