REVIEW: Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 19 Episode 10
The Criminal Minds season 19 has officially come to an end. In the tenth episode “Bad Blood”, we continue with Zach Gilford’s character, Elias Voit, escaping from prison. The finale takes us on a journey on how James Crowley, known as The Fan, wormed his way into the victim’s lives. While on a mission to save his family from the wrath of The Fan, he kickstarts a ‘shoot first’ manhunt’. Eventually, teasing with a quick “I just wanted to hear your voice” call to David and Penelope (Joe Mantegna and Kirsten Vangsness), Voit learns his eldest daughter, Holly (Allison Nordahl), has been abducted. With the BAU scattered working with Director Madison (Clark Gregg) to bring Voit back and save Holly and Laura, Evolution will finally bring this chapter to its close.

The BAU Against Everyone… Except Voit?
Previously our profilers recovered from Penelope’s shocking testimony on Voit’s behalf. While the team dynamic has settled their tensions, their director disagrees. Madison stands in opposition to the BAU’s profile that Elias’ escape no longer poses a threat. Their theory and debate over Elias Voit’s newfound empathy receives a live example in “Bad Blood”. After the director orders Voit’s execution, he receives some pushback from both Prentiss (Paget Brewster) and Rossi. The two, who almost proudly note his restraint on violence in his escape. Further down the road, an apology from Voit to Penelope slips out due to his concern about professional backlash over his escape and her testimony. In a sense he almost proves that Penelope’s efforts were not misguided.
One person who maintains her faith in Elias is his daughter Holly. A brilliant performance as the college student who first contacted Crowley after one of his lectures on criminology. Notably, Holly’s internalized battle with fears of becoming Elias draws the fan’s obsession towards her family. While engaging in her prison with The Fan, her predisposition to anger possibly derived from her father, comes to light, much to her dismay. At one point, Crowley throws her season 17 attack as a shining example of a genetic component to evil. Threats are exchanged back to back, eventually leading to a final showdown. The face-off between the two men takes place for the climax of the episode.
How Does it End?
No spoilers as promised; however, the audience can expect some storylines to see a gratifying ending. A juicy cliffhanger is always promised. One that suggests that a season 20 renewal was not expected; despite that, episode one of the next season won’t leave us out on a limb. There are the plotlines with less significance than Voit’s; for example, AJ Cook’s character. Jennifer, will see her son off to college with a heartfelt goodbye. In addition, good news for those who felt Luke Alvez was not as central as promised in season 19. There is a special moment dedicated to memorializing the loss of his dog Roxy, solidifying how she saved his life. Of course, everyone wants to know if this is our last season with Elias, but in Criminal Minds, we know absolutely nothing for Zach’s return—tune into the finale to find out where the BAU and Voit end up!
