When his old teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), now the owner of a failing F1 team, begs him to return for one last race season, Sonny reluctantly agrees. But the road ahead isn’t smooth. His comeback puts him side by side and head to head with the team’s rising star, rookie sensation Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), who’s out to prove that the future belongs to him. As the engines roar and the stakes climb, Sonny is forced to confront his past, his limits, and the harsh truth that in F1, your greatest rival might be the one in the garage next to you. In this world, redemption doesn’t come easy and victory never comes alone.
What follows is more than just a comeback it’s a collision of generations, egos, and ambition. As Sonny faces off against his own past and Pearce pushes the boundaries of what’s possible, the two drivers find themselves in a battle where teammates are rivals, and redemption is earned at 200 miles per hour. Shot during real F1 Grand Prix weekends, F1: The Movie puts viewers trackside with unprecedented access to the sport’s quick pounding action. With Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) in the director’s seat and Ehren Kruger penning the script, the film is built to thrill from the paddock to the podium.
The film features a master ensemble cast: Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem. Behind the scenes, Kosinski reunites with his Maverick dream team Oscar-winner Claudio Miranda on cinematography, editor Stephen Mirrione, and none other than Hans Zimmer on the score. Produced by Monolith Pictures, Jerry Bruckheimer, Plan B Entertainment, and Dawn Apollo Films, this Apple Original Films project is set to cross the finish line in style.
