Alan Tudyk Talks Resident Alien Directorial Debut & The Rookie Return
The aliens have landed — again. On June 6, SYFY and USA Network celebrated the highly anticipated return of Resident Alien with a star-studded screening event at The London West Hollywood, where guests got a first look at the Season 4 premiere followed by a lively Q&A with the cast and creators.
Table Of Content
Moderated by Lorraine Ali, News and Culture Critic at The Los Angeles Times, the panel featured series star Alan Tudyk, who not only returns as the galaxy’s quirkiest extraterrestrial-turned-doctor, Harry Vanderspeigle, but also steps behind the camera for his directorial debut this season.

Attendees were treated to an advance screening of the season premiere, which picks up with Harry trapped on the Greys’ moonbase alongside his infant hybrid daughter, Bridget — while a sinister shape-shifting alien Mantid (also played by Tudyk) impersonates him on Earth. Talk about multitasking.
Notable cast and crew in attendance included:
- Alan Tudyk
- Sara Tomko
- Corey Reynolds
- Alice Wetterlund
- Levi Fiehler
- Meredith Garretson
- Judah Prehn
- Chris Sheridan (executive producer)
Alongside guest stars Jenna Lamia, Michael Cassidy, Nicola Correia-Damude, Gracelyn Awad Rinke, Andrea Geones, and Rachel Cowell.

Directing Debut & Double Trouble
During the Q&A, Tudyk shared insight into the challenges of directing an episode where he plays both Harry and his evil alien doppelgänger. “It was like filming a buddy comedy with myself. A very awkward, alien buddy comedy,” he joked.
While he’s a veteran of genre TV, stepping into the director’s chair added new layers to his creative involvement. “There’s so much I love about this show — its heart, its weirdness, its humanity. Getting to help shape that from the other side of the camera was a dream.”
Will Tudyk Return to The Rookie?
Of course, fans couldn’t help but ask about Tudyk’s other standout TV role — the unforgettable villain Elijah Stone on ABC’s The Rookie. “I’d love to go back,” Tudyk teased. “There’s always a possibility. He’s not dead… just well-dressed and waiting.”
What to Expect in Season 4
Season 4 of Resident Alien ups the stakes as Harry returns to Earth for a showdown with the Mantid imposter — and possibly his biggest emotional reckoning yet. Meanwhile, Asta and D’Arcy are keeping a dangerous secret, Sheriff Mike suspects something far from human is responsible for a string of deaths, and tensions are rising in the small town of Patience.
Produced by UCP (a division of Universal Studio Group), Resident Alien continues to blend science fiction, dark comedy, and heartfelt character drama with each new twist — and this season is shaping up to be its most explosive yet.
Where and When to Watch
Resident Alien Season 4 is now on USA and SYFY, with episodes available to stream on Peacock one week after they air.
