Hello critic Shealynn Scott. […] You’re young. You don’t know that bad pics and bad reviews can lead to 350 people losing their jobs. Sell vintage. Work at a shelter. Do something better than what you do now. Because right now you suck.”
The post in response to critic Shealyn Scott was in reference to her recent article. It centred on the format change of Criminal Minds: Evolution shifting from 24 episodes on average to 10. She stated that the lack of filler episodes dedicated to exploring storylines is hindering the overall Criminal Minds experience. It is worth mentioning that Scott’s column did not feature a personal analysis of Brewster’s acting or character. For the header photo, Shealyn did use a Paramount+ approved image of Brewster. It appears the photo, featuring Prentiss’ frown, was meant to mimic the mood of the critique and not as a direct insult to the actress and company.
The Response from Everyone Else
After Brewster’s post, the backlash was immediate. Fans and followers swarmed to her replies in defense of the writer. The fans citing that the article was fair and impersonal and that Brewster’s reaction was inappropriate and cruel. Paget eventually removed the post; however, by this time, other entertainment sources reported on the incident. Rob Keyes, the PR Director for ScreenRant, responded to the star. He mentions that he reached out to Paget’s manager expecting an apology for Scott. Around midday June 21st, Paget Brewster issued a public apology to Shealyn and her followers:

Some fans and followers of the actress have had polarizing reactions to the incident across social media platforms. One detailing that it was “noble to apologize”. On the other hand, some stated it was a sign for Brewster to take a social media break. As a longtime fan of Paget myself, this momentary lapse of kindness was unexpected and seemingly out of character for the actress.
In late afternoon, Shealyn Scott on a new X account verified a personal apology from Paget Brewster. In addition, she states she is still a fan of the show and is excited to continue covering the season. It is notable that in the pursuit of discouraging bad press for Criminal Minds: Evolution, Paget Brewster’s actions created a mixed storm of coverage surrounding the show. The end result, in accordance with Scott’s kind post, some fans have eased their minds towards the actress; others may bear a grudge. In summation, Shealyn Scott is capable of withholding public malice towards the actress, it’s hard not to believe it’s possible for the actress to work towards redemption in the court of public opinion.
